The radical design, the shape of the chassis with decoupled motor, inverted main bearing and newly designed tone-arm all add up to a miracle in sound without breaking the bank.

The ultra minimalist design, available in a range of colours, contains the audio sophistication Pro-Ject is renown for whilst maintaining the innovative and clean design style apparent through all the Pro-Ject vinyl player ranges.

The Pro-Ject RPM Genie 1.3 Manual turntable with S-shaped 8.6″ tone-arm features:

Turntable:

• Chassis available in matt black, glossy black, red and white
• A quiet running synchronous motor with a two-step pulley drives the platter’s outside edge via a rubber belt
• The drive motor is isolated on its own platform and completely decoupled from the plinth to eliminate vibration transmission
• The resonance-optimised platter is made of medium density fibre
• A inverted, chrome-plated stainless-steel axle runs on a polished metal ball in a sintered bronze bearing housing
• Connection to the phono input of the amplifier can be made with connecting cables of your taste through the gold plated phono sockets and earth screw
• External power supply avoids potential electro-mechanical interference

Tonearm 8.6″ S:

• The turntable is supplied with Ortofon OM 3E or Ortofon 2M Red MM-cartridge fitted
• The headshell and armtube are fashioned from a single piece of aluminium.
• The horizontal bearings consist of two hardened stainless steel points and ballraces
• Eccentrically mounted counterweight reduces cantilever forces and “dynamic wow” when playing warped records
• Solid armbase permits accurate height adjustment of armtube and VTA (vertical tracing angle)
• The counterweight supplied is suitable for cartridges weighing between 4-9g
• Single-screw fixing of armtube allows rotation for easy adjustment of needle azimuth despite fixed headshell
• The internal wiring consists of silver coated, high-purity copper

The Pro-Ject RPM Genie range is available through Encel Stereo and selected audio specialist retailers throughout Australia with an RRP of $449.

The April 2013 meeting of the Sydney Audio Club sees us once again at Dence Park for an afternoon of fine music and sound and convivial company.

Each month, the Sydney Audio Club presents the finest in high end audio systems for our members and guests. It’s a bit like a private audio show once a month where you can hear and discuss equipment that you might not otherwise have the chance to audition. And you can bring along your own music to test the capabilities of the system or to just share with like-minded music lovers in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

This month we will have a system comprising of NAD and Tannoy provided by Audio Products (refer tohttp://www.audioproducts.com.au/) and Len Wallis Audio (refer to http://www.lenwallisaudio.com/). We will also have Scott Collins (Audio Products Marketing Manager) and Himal Jekishan of Audio Products in attendance.

For 40 years NAD has been regarded as a market leader in high quality affordable electronics. Today, whilst still producing excellent affordable models, NAD is now recognised around the world as the manufacturer of some of the world’s most advanced digital audio products. At the club meeting, we will presenting its acclaimed Masters Series models.

From the NAD Masters Series, Len Wallis Audio is kindly providing a M2 Direct Digital Amplifier (2 x 250W) which has received many awards and accolades including a ‘Product of the Year’ award from The Absolute Sound. (Refer tohttp://www.lenwallisaudio.com/products/amplifiers/integrated-amplifier/m2 andhttp://www.audioproducts.com.au/ProductInfo.aspx?pid=M-2).

The M2 integrated amplifier will be driving a pair of Tannoy Definition DC8T’s which are the result of the refinement of over 80 years of audio heritage. The Definition series feature Tannoy’s Dual Concentric™ design which positions the tweeter at the centre of the cone to yield outstanding time coherence and true point source articulation with no energy loss through the crossover region. (Refer tohttps://audioproducts.com.au/ProductInfo.aspx?pid=DEFDC8TB)

The main front-end will be a NAD C 546BEE CD Player (refer to https://audioproducts.com.au/ProductInfo.aspx?pid=C546BEEG). There will also be a NAD M51 Direct Digital DAC on hand (refer to https://audioproducts.com.au/ProductInfo.aspx?pid=M-51).

The second half of the music sessions will be our popular BYO. Members and guests are welcome to offer music to share with us all. So bring along your favourite music on CD (or CD/SACD hybrid) or flash drives. Sorry, no vinyl this month. All we ask is that the music and recordings be interesting. We’ll ask you to tell us a little about the artist/recording before it is played. Tracks over 6 minutes will be faded out, to give everyone a fair go.

Whether you are a novice or a seasoned veteran, you will have the opportunity to listen, learn and share your experiences with others of a similar mind.

Members and Guests welcome – we are a very friendly club so you don’t need to know anyone to join us for an afternoon of fine music and sound. We will welcome you at the door.

Venue: Epping Creative Centre
Address: 26 Stanley St, Epping

When: Sunday 14th April

Doors open 1pm
Meeting starts at 2pm

Best regards,

Cameron Pope of Krispy Kables (http://www.krispykables.com.au/) will be presenting a system that promises presence, imaging and excellent tonal balance. Krispy Kables offers a wide range of products to suit every ear and budget: dCS, Bladelius, Aktimate active speakers, Sim Audio (Moon), EgglestonWorks speakers, Pure Audio, Morch tonearms, Resolution Audio, Shelter cartridges, Atohm speakers and subs, JL Audio subs, Verity speakers, Voodoo cables and Zu Audio to name a few, plus Krispy Kables own branded cables.

On the meeting day, Cameron will be presenting these components:

Basis Debut Signature turntable, with Transfiguration Axia-S cartridge (MC)

Pure Audio Vinyl phono stage

Esoteric K-03 SACD/CD player

Audion Silver Night 300B valve integrated amp

Zu Audio Union speakers – 99dB efficient single point source floor standing speakers with excellent imaging

Krispy Kables cables

Cameron will also be bringing another amplifier with more power than the Audion – one from BAT, Pure Audio, Moon, Micromega or Bladelius.

The second half of the music sessions will be our popular BYO. Members and guests are welcome to offer music to share with us all. So bring along your favourite discs – vinyl or CD/SACD.

When: Sunday 10th March

By Peter Familari

Marc Rushton is passionate about his baby. And the passion shows out here on the pavement of leafy Lygon Street, Carlton.

It’s a languid Melbourne summer afternoon with the mercury heading North of 36 degrees and climbing.

Rushton shuffles his coffee and talks about the birth of an idea. An idea created 13 years ago, now matured into one of the world’s most popular audio-video sites

“I love great sound. My father had always been into music and good sound and as a child I was constantly exposed to this, thankfully!”

“I saw the need for a dedicated local Hi-Fi website, and obviously the site resonated with people. It really wasn’t long before we had attracted a rather large following.’’

An audio-video enthusiast Rushton wasn’t driven by money but by the simple discovery that for people like him there was a vacuum in Australia when it came to local information and content about his passion for Hi-Fi, Home Theatre and general consumer electronics.

Rushton launched his new baby in 2000 calling it ‘’Planet Audio Australia’’. It went gangbusters before you could say ‘plug n’ play’. But there was a glitch.

In 2003 a US based brand sharing the site’s name unleashed a legal tirade. While Rushton met the challenge head on and won the ensuing fracas, he wisely changed the name to StereoNet Australia to avoid any future confusion.

‘’We haven’t looked back since then, ‘’ Rushton says.

‘’Thanks to the support of the industry, volunteers and our moderators we’ve now grown into a healthy site with plenty of readers.’’

IThe site www.stereo.net.au is a no-brainer and has a huge following. Audited figures show it pulls in on average 70,000 unique readers each month.

“In October last year we peaked at 73, 341 readers. And I can’t help but feel there’s more to come,’’ says Rushton.

“This success and dedication to the Australian industry was recognised in 2012 by being awarded an Honorary Member of the Australian HiFi Assocation.’’

‘’StereoNET is extremely proud of this recognition and we look forward to continuing our journey as the most popular and successful HiFi and Home Theatre website and organisation in Australia.’’

So what’s been the secret to StereoNET’s ballistic trajectory upwards?

“It’s as transparent as providing the kind of content I would like to read myself about audio-video topics,’’ Rushton Says.

Having wide-eyed moderators to keep the trolls at bay also helps as I personally found out a couple of years ago before meeting Rushton.

Buying a decades old Krell MD transport was no problem. I’d coveted this rather swank model for years and finally splashed the cash.

But I also factored in that Philips no longer made the cast iron laser mechanism, and Krell has long since run out of parts.

So I trawled the Net and discovered StereoNet in the process. What surprised me was the genuine collegiate advise and help proffered by the Stereo Netters – and the overall good manners displayed by the majority in the site’s forum.

I got my new old stock laser thanks to a lead in one of the forums. And I’ve remained a Stereo Netter ever since.

When I shared my experience of his site, Rushton was not surprised.

“StereoNET’s motivation is crystal clear: we support enthusiasts and friendly dialogue. We discourage disrespect but above all we promote the idea that audio-video is all about meeting people and having fun,’’ Rushton says.

Making baby grow the right way is as simple as that.

Nearly twelve months ago, the ISX-800 integrated audio system proved a head-turner when it was released as ‘something different’ from Yamaha. Designed to impress aesthetically as much as it was built for sound, the second incarnation of the model features Bluetooth connectivity to realise the wireless ethos of Yamaha’s new range.

Accentuating its minimalist form, music (and other audio) can be wirelessly streamed to the ISX-B820 from any Bluetooth-enabled device including a smartphone, tablet or laptop. Coupled with its sleek yet inconspicuous design, the ISX-B820 seamlessly brings music to any room without the need to ‘plug in’. The ability to wirelessly connect adds a new dimension of practicality and convenience. Streaming audio without the need for a wireless network also ensures a broad appeal to an increasing number of listeners who are looking for connectivity, simplicity and performance.

The ability to integrate with handheld devices extends even further with the introduction of a new (and free) app from Yamaha. DTA Controller* provides enhanced functionality including multi-day alarm programming and fine-tuning of Yamaha’s exclusive IntelliAlarm technology which gently wakens its audience with music that gradually increases in volume while high frequencies are eased in to avoid an abrupt start to the day.

“Users are coming to expect more from their audio systems,” said Wesley Fischer – Product Manager for Yamaha Music Australia. “Not only do they have to perform and look the part, but they also have to integrate with their phone or tablet.”

The top of the unit features a single slot CD player which supports audio, MP3 and WMA CDs, as well as a FM tuner, USB input (MP3 and WMA) and 3.5mm AUX input for devices without Bluetooth plus a 30-pin dock connection.

Measuring in at a depth of just 9cm for the main body, the ISX-B820 sits flush against a wall making use of its half-moon shaped stand. For those wanting to mount onto a wall, an optional bracket, the AT-800, is available with a recommended retail price (RRP) of $99.

Inheriting the grille fascia of its predecessor, the ISX-B820 utilises a two-way, four speaker system comprised of dual 10cm full range drivers and 3cm soft dome tweeters to deliver Yamaha’s trademark audio performance.

A distinctive clock continues to feature prominently and provides a choice of two display options with an auto dimmer function to adjust to room’s lighting conditions.

The ISX-B820 is available now with a recommended retail price (RRP) of $999. The model is presented in White as well as new colour options Magenta and Emerald Green. For more information on Yamaha’s wireless audio solutions, visit au.yamaha.com or call 1300 739 411.

*The DTA Controller app is available now for iOS devices from the App Store. An Android version of the DTA Controller app is scheduled for release in April 2013.
